Salvation

Saved or Lost?

The purpose of this page is to present to you the truths from God's Word concerning what is necessary in order for a person to be a Christian.

Anyone who has ever done much personal evangelism, speaking to people one-on-one about Christ, has found that almost everyone they've ever asked says they are a Christian.  However, being a Christian is more than any of the following…

† Believing in God and believing that Jesus Christ was real and that he really did die on the cross

† Attending some church regularly or even occasionally

† Being a morally good person

† Doing good to others

† Not ever doing anything 'real' bad

† Even being baptized

It goes without saying that the Bible is large and filled with a tremendous amount of material.  However, the portions of the Bible needed to bring a person to Christ can be covered in a relatively short time in a small amount of space.  This does not mean that the rest is unnecessary, but that the rest is to be read and studied after one comes to be a Christian and able to understand the deeper things in the Holy Scriptures.

If you'll stay with me, I can present these elementary truths to you in just about 5 minutes or so.  I will present these truths to you in a 'bulleted' format in order to help you see the appropriate steps in becoming a Christian

I Corinthians 2:14 - "But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned."

This verse tells us that if you are living as a natural man (a man without Christ as Savior) you CANNOT understand or know Spiritual things because it is only through the Spirit of God that you can.  The great exception to this is that the natural man CAN understand about his sin, Christ's sacrifice and his need of repentance

Romans 3:23 - "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;"

This verse tells us that God DECLARED every person who has ever lived, is presently living or will live a sinner and that they have not measured up to His holy standard.

John 3:16 - "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."

This verse tells us that God loved the entire world (the sinful people) so much that He provided His only begotten Son (Jesus) as a payment for the sin of all mankind and that the ONLY thing they would have to do to obtain everlasting life is to simply put their complete trust in Jesus. In order to put your complete trust in Jesus you must confess that you are unable to save yourself, repent of your sin, ask God to forgive you of your sin and finally ask Christ to come into your heart.

Ephesians 2:8-9 - "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast."

This verse tells us that the gift of salvation is provided completely by the grace of God and through faith in His promise (of Jesus) and CANNOT be obtained by working or man would be able to save himself and thereby making the sacrifice of Jesus Christ null and void and the Word of God untrue.

Romans 6:23 - "For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."

First, this verse tells us that the payment for our sin is death. This death is two-fold.  It refers to the physical death that came about when sin entered the Garden of Eden as Adam and Eve ate of the forbidden fruit, and it also refers to the spiritual death that comes about when one dies without having received Christ as their personal Savior and plunges for eternity into a devil's hell. Second, this verse tells us that the gift of God, eternal life, is available through Jesus Christ.  Obviously, this eternal life refers to eternal "spiritual life". It also communicates His love to us  in that although we deserved to die and go to hell, He provided us a way of escape.

Romans 10:9, 10, 13 - "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.  For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved."

These verses tell us that in order to be saved we must acknowledge and confess our sin to God believing with all of our heart that Jesus Christ is who the Bible says He is (the Saviour of the entire world) and that He did what the Bible said He did (died on the cross to pay our sin debt, rose from the dead, ascended back into heaven where He is today and waiting for the Father to send Him back for all those who received Him as Savior).

As previously mentioned, there is so much that could be shared with you concerning what it takes to become a Christian.  There are many parallel verses that reaffirm or support the beliefs shared in the above verses.  If you have further questions do not hesitate to call upon us or email for further counsel and discussion.
